A Plea that Raised Concern from Two Places

When a family member has lost contact, a concerned sister’s plea for help managed to link caring resources from two places.

“It has been one day since the last time I’ve been in contact with my sister. Can someone check on her? ” 

A coworker at the 7979 Holistic Care Station of Christian Grace Church (KL) received news that quenched her heart. A lady named Siew Lan (pseudonym) sought help; she was very concerned about her sister, Siew Ying (pseudonym). Siew Ying, who lives alone in this city, is an elderly woman in her eighties. It was 2 days ago that she told the church about her sister’s condition; she was worried that her sister might run out of food supplies. Furthermore, she could not go there by herself; her only resort was to seek help from the church, hoping a nearby church could lend a hand.   

Therefore, 7979 received this SOS call. 

Very quickly, 7979 passed this news to Cheras Logos Presbyterian Church, which is located nearby. When the pastor heard that the live alone elderly was lost contact, he immediately agreed and responded by calling another volunteer to go with him to the flat. About one and a half hours later, they reached their destination.      
      
They thought the address provided was complete, but when they arrived, they found no flat number was stated in the address. As a result, they had to search through the flats and ask residents, hoping to find clues. On the other hand, our 7979 coworker was trying to get the contact of the Residents’ Committee, hoping he or she could help the pastor and volunteer in searching for Siew Ying.

Time slowly passed by; the pastor and the volunteer were still searching for Siew Ying at the flats. Everyone was worried about her condition.     

“We finally found her; she was fine.” When the news that Siew Ying had been found was sent by Cheras Logos Presbyterian Church to everyone following this case, our anxious hearts finally settled down.   

We are grateful for Cheras Logos Presbyterian Church’s timely response; despite an incomplete address and the difficulties in locating the right address, they still did not give up until they found her.  

A plea from Siew Lan to search for her sister went to Christian Grace Church, then to 7979, and finally to Cheras Logos Presbyterian Church; this line of searching has displayed how “7979 Holistic Care Relief Network” linked a person in need with a nearby church. When a community faces crisis, it does not have to be borne by one church but by a community of churches. Timely response will ensure the needy receives appropriate care and support at the crucial time.
