Cina、Kg. Lumatai 、Kg.

2025 Sabah Flood Response Report (February and March)

In February, the month when the Chinese New Year celebration is nearing its end, Sabah experienced incessant rainfall, which caused the rivers’ water levels to rise significantly. Consequently, floods and landslides occurred, causing great disaster. Among these, the Keningau district and its vicinity were greatly affected by the water outage. To respond quickly to this flood disaster, on 2 August, 7979 set off its disaster response mechanism by appointing the Chief Command Coordinator, recruiting cleaning volunteers, and purchasing disaster relief goods, while collecting and evaluating disaster progress and condition.

Timeline of Disaster Response Operation
Feb 2:
Using BCCM Keningau as the operation base, volunteers started to clean houses with the limited water supply

Feb 10:
Cleaning work speeded up with the return of water supply at the disaster response zone. The majority of the volunteers on that day were teenagers. They spotted a dead snake and thanked God that they were all in complete disaster response attire with proper tools to ensure safety.

Feb 11:
Volunteers cleaned the area of the Tamu open market, including some shop lots. Upon completion, the local disaster survivors showed appreciation by inviting them for lunch. After lunch, the volunteers headed back to base with an exhausted body but a contented heart.

Recurrence of Flood

7th March, Sabah was hit by flood again, the affected areas were Tenom, Sapong沙邦, Keningau, Beaufort and Sukau District. Due to vast flooding areas, water receded very slowly in low-lying areas like the Beaufort district. As a result, disaster survivors in these areas had to suffer longer. Water rationing made it more difficult for them to return to normalcy. Upon completion of the assessment and investigation by the recce team formed jointly by 7979 and Sabah Methodist Crisis Relief & Development (SMCRD), on March 14 and 15, together with the BM department of Beaufort Basel Church, a local church, they advanced into the disaster zone, distributing relief goods and cash vouchers for daily necessities.
Timeline of Disaster Response Operation
March 14 and 15:
Volunteers departed from Kota Kinabalu towards the Beaufort disaster zone. In two days, they distributed relief goods to disaster survivors at Kg. Cina, Kg. Lumatai, Kg. Batu 58, 59, 60 and Kg. Bingkul, to lift some burden off their shoulders. Many disaster survivors shared honestly that it was the first time that they received external assistance, and their hearts were filled with warmth and gratitude.
In this relief operation, SMCRD prepared 200 bags of relief goods, while 7979 prepared 199 bags. Hence, close to 400 households of disaster survivors received RM80 worth of relief goods, which comprised cash vouchers for daily necessities, instant non-perishable food and toiletries; hoping it will provide practical assistance.
