SJKC Chong Fah Phit Chee – Children’s Disaster Risk Reduction Programme
During a flood, even if you cannot swim, there are still other ways to save yourself.
“I can’t swim,” one child honestly told the facilitator during the session.
“That’s okay. If you have empty mineral water bottles, you can tie them inside your clothes and still stay afloat to escape,” the facilitator replied with a smile.
As long as people know the correct methods and remain calm, everyone has a chance to protect themselves during a disaster. This is exactly the goal of the Children’s Disaster Risk Reduction Awareness Programme organised by 7979.

On 6 February 2026, 7979 conducted its first collaborative children’s disaster risk reduction programme with a school at SJKC Chong Fah Phit Chee in Kuala Lumpur. Located in the Pudu area, the school is situated in a high-risk flash flood zone. Teachers and students shared that sudden flooding and water accumulation occasionally disrupt their daily school activities. In addition, the school has multi-storey buildings, and teachers admitted that they were often unsure how to respond in the event of an earthquake. Therefore, the school specially invited 7979 to conduct this programme so that children would know how to respond during different types of disasters.
The programme covered disaster preparedness topics such as floods, fires, and earthquakes, and received enthusiastic participation from all 89 students. Besides learning disaster preparedness knowledge from the facilitators, the students also had the opportunity to experience an earthquake emergency drill. As the programme came to an end, the children happily waved goodbye to the 7979 team, bringing the meaningful event to a joyful conclusion.
After the programme, school board member and owner of Restaurant Teochew Lao Er, generously sponsored a delicious lunch for the 7979 team. We sincerely thank him for his warm hospitality and support, which ended the meaningful event with warmth and fellowship.

Care Begins with the Feet · Ipoh
For many elderly people, declining eyesight or limited mobility makes even simple tasks such as trimming fingernails and toenails difficult. When left unattended or done improperly, it not only affects daily hygiene and comfort, but may also lead to serious health complications, especially for those with chronic illnesses.
Although nail care may seem simple, it is both a professional skill and a valuable moment of companionship. Through careful care and conversation, volunteers spend time interacting with the elderly, allowing them to feel seen, heard, and cared for. In this way, care goes beyond formality and truly reaches into lives.
On 6 March 2026, the “7979 Bahagia Berlimpah · Care Begins with the Feet” programme in Ipoh was successfully held. We are especially thankful to Ms Vivien Cheah Kit Wan, education instructor at Glitz Nail Supply and International Nail Instructor, who personally guided 11 volunteers from the very beginning in learning how to safely trim nails and provide basic foot care for the elderly. The training was practical and enriching, equipping volunteers with useful skills to bring care into the community.
We would also like to thank Clara International Education Ipoh Centre for generously providing the training venue, allowing volunteers and Clara students to learn and interact together. In addition, sincere thanks to Glitz Nail Supply for sponsoring the nail care tools and presenting certificates of completion to the volunteers who completed the training.
May this care that begins from the feet continue to extend further, allowing more elderly people to experience warmth through small acts of care, where love can be both seen and shared.

Connecting More Resources, Protecting More Families — PERKESO Coordinator Training
In facing the diverse and complex needs of poor and vulnerable families, 7979 continues moving forward to strengthen its service capacity. One important step in this journey is its partnership with the Social Security Organisation (PERKESO).

PERKESO has accepted the 7979 Holistic Care Relief Network as a collaborative partner under the “Program Social Synergy”. This partnership further expands resource connections and support channels for vulnerable families within the community. Through collaboration with other synergy partners, and by integrating resources from both government agencies and non-profit organisations, 7979 hopes to work alongside churches in building a stronger social safety net for vulnerable groups.
To improve the efficiency of resource coordination, 7979 and PERKESO conducted training sessions on 12 March and 26 March 2026. A total of 24 7979 staff members, volunteer managers, and core volunteers participated in the PERKESO Coordinator Training, learning how to use the internal system for case referrals and management.
