MCDS(Multipurpose Community Development Service)长期在尼泊尔参与社区发展及灾害风险减缓工作,拥有当地社区及教会网络。

👨👩👧👦 按照家庭成员人数;
👕 根据家庭成员所需的衣服尺寸;

RASUWA BHOTEKOSHI FLOOD – Relief Distribution Program – Supported by NBCC/MCDS”

Nepal Flood Disaster Response · Phase Progress Report (1)
This report summarises the disaster situation, MCDS’ local response, and 7979’s actions from 26 August to 5 September 2026. It serves as an accountability record to update supporters on the progress of the response and the use of resources.
1. Disaster Response Continues into the Ongoing Relief Phase
On 26 August 2026, severe flooding and landslides struck the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli river basins in northern Nepal, severely affecting areas including Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading.
As of 4 September 2026, the Government of Nepal reported that search, rescue and relief operations were still ongoing on the tenth day following the disaster. The floods caused widespread damage to homes, roads, bridges, hydropower facilities and other critical infrastructure.
Affected families continue to face ongoing needs for shelter, food, essential household supplies, sanitation, healthcare and post-disaster recovery.

2. Local Partner Response Has Moved from Assessment to Direct Assistance
MCDS (Multipurpose Community Development Service) has long been involved in community development and disaster risk reduction work in Nepal, with established local community and church networks. 7979 is currently partnering with MCDS in Nepal. Following the floods, MCDS immediately began frontline needs assessment and relief operations.

3. MCDS Response: Relief Supplies Distribution
After beginning frontline needs assessments on 28 August, MCDS / Nepal Baptist Church Council (NBCC) identified 150 of the poorest and most vulnerable disaster-affected families as priority beneficiaries.

👕 Completed to date: Clothing assistance for 150 families
This clothing distribution was not simply based on giving each household a fixed number of items. Instead, the assistance was prepared according to the actual needs of each family:
- 👨👩👧👦 Based on the number of family members;
- 👕 According to the clothing sizes required by each family member;
- 📋 Distributed specifically to families assessed as being among those most in need.

The latest field photos provided by MCDS show NBCC/MCDS volunteers sorting, organising and distributing clothing as part of a Relief Distribution Program in the Rasuwa Bhote Koshi area.
The initiative was titled: “RASUWA BHOTEKOSHI FLOOD – Relief Distribution Program – Supported by NBCC/MCDS”
This indicates that the local response has gradually moved beyond the initial stages of understanding the disaster situation and assessing needs, and is now progressing through the following stages:
Disaster Assessment → Identification of Families → Preparation of Relief Supplies → Distribution According to Actual Needs

Field information provided by MCDS shows that large amounts of mud and sediment remain in the affected areas, with clean-up work still ongoing. Some roads and community access routes also continue to be affected.
At the same time, many displaced families may require temporary accommodation for an extended period, as some have lost not only their homes but even the land on which their houses once stood. It remains uncertain whether these families will be able to return, relocate, or secure longer-term housing.

4. 7979 Major Disaster Response
In response to this disaster, the 7979 Holistic Care Relief Network is participating in disaster response efforts through its local partner, MCDS.
✈️ 1. Deployment to the Front Line in Nepal
On 5 September 2026, 7979 Major Disaster Response Consultant Eddy Hew will travel to Nepal and join the local MCDS team to take part in disaster response efforts.
Eddy previously participated in disaster response work following the 2015 Nepal earthquake and established a working relationship with MCDS. During this visit to Nepal, besides journeying alongside the local partner, he will also gain a deeper understanding of the situation on the ground, current response needs, and possible directions for follow-up work.

🤝 2. Working Alongside Local Partners
Upon arrival, Eddy met with MCDS leaders to discuss plans to travel to the disaster-affected area of Bidur the following day, 6 September, and to participate together in the disaster response.

7979 does not determine assistance remotely or unilaterally. Instead, through MCDS’ local network, frontline assessments and actual response efforts, we continue to understand where help is most needed, what is needed, who has already received assistance, and what gaps remain. Assistance is then carried out in accordance with local government requirements and relevant coordination mechanisms.
5. Needs Still Being Observed on the Ground
Relief distribution is only the beginning of the response. According to field information provided by MCDS, large amounts of mud and sediment remain in affected areas, with clean-up work still ongoing. Some roads and community access routes continue to be affected, making frontline assessments and the delivery of relief supplies challenging.
In addition to food and clothing, the following areas require continued assessment:
- Temporary shelter and essential household items, including blankets and sleeping supplies
- Food and safe drinking water
- Hygiene supplies and basic medical support
- Psychosocial care and support
- Last-mile delivery to remote communities
6. Follow-up Actions
7979 places importance on the responsible use and tracking of every contribution received.
We will therefore continue to follow up with our local partner on:
📍 Location — Which districts and communities are receiving assistance.
👨👩👧👦 Beneficiaries — How many families and individuals are being assisted.
📦 Relief Supplies — What items are being distributed and in what quantities.
💰 Resources — How resources provided by 7979 are being used.
📸 Documentation — Including field photographs, activity records and partner reports.
📋 Follow-up Actions — What needs remain after the first phase is completed and what the next stage will involve.
We want every supporter to know that: A donation is not merely a number. It can be tracked and documented, and ultimately becomes a resource that brings practical help to disaster-affected families.
7. Next Steps
Over the coming period, 7979 will continue to focus on three areas:
① Front Line — Follow up on Eddy and MCDS’ disaster response activities on the ground.
② Relief Assistance — Follow up on MCDS’ actual relief distribution and the families receiving assistance.
③ Recovery — As the affected areas gradually move into the early recovery phase, assess follow-up needs related to temporary shelter, water, infrastructure, healthcare, psychosocial support and livelihood recovery.
Disaster response does not end when public attention fades.
From emergency response to post-disaster recovery and long-term reconstruction, 7979 hopes to continue journeying alongside our local partners.
